Farm Share Inc. Awarded $10,000 Grant From the Mazda Foundation for Transportation Related Expenses

HOMESTEAD, FL (August 25th, 2016)– Farm Share, Inc., is pleased to announce that the Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. has awarded Farm Share a $10,000.00 grant for transportation-related costs, including fuel and truck maintenance.

Established in 1991, Farm Share is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to recovering, sorting, packing, and distributing nutritious food to people in need across the state of Florida. Farm Share works with Florida farmers to prevent food waste and distribute healthy food, including fruit, vegetables, milk, bread, and juices, to those who need it most. Farm Share distributes food directly to families in need through its direct-community distribution program as well as partner agencies. Many of the agencies Farm Share supplies are small non-profits, including church food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and community centers, run by volunteers.

Last year, Farm Share had a record-breaking year, distributing 40,497,190 pounds of food and serving over 6 million household packages across the state of Florida. Transportation-related costs, such as fuel and truck maintenance, are major expenses for Farm Share as it takes an extensive fleet of semi-trucks, trailers, and box trucks, operating six days a week, to recover and distribute millions of pounds of fresh food each year. The Mazda Foundation $10,000.00 grant will help to keep Farm Share trucks maintained and provide fuel to increase the number of food loads Farm Share distributes.

Through the Mazda Foundation, Mazda and its employees are working together to proactively help the communities where we live and work – to build a better, brighter future. With contributions exceeding $11 million since its founding in 1992, the Mazda Foundation is playing a meaningful role in helping thousands of Americans realize their aspirations and dreams. The Mazda Foundation offers support to a range of different organizations and educational scholarships such as food banks, environmental programs and crucial disaster relief efforts.
