Building a stronger tomorrow: Mazda partners with American Red Cross

Mazda’s dedication to building a better tomorrow goes beyond manufacturing great vehicles.

Stretching back nearly 25 years, Mazda’s collaboration with the American Red Cross began when Mazda asked its local Red Cross chapter to train the Mazda Emergency Response Team. The team of Mazda employees in Irvine, California is trained in CPR and Automated External Defibrillator to respond when a fellow employee is in need of aid.

The relationship between Mazda and American Red Cross has only strengthened since then. Over the years, Mazda has made several specific disaster-needs donations to the American Red Cross during times of crisis, such as Superstorm Sandy and the Boulder, Colorado floods. Mazda also encourages its employees to spend volunteer hours participating in Red Cross programs such as blood drives and Holiday Mail for Heroes.

As part of the Mazda Drive for Good initiative, in 2015, Mazda was the first U.S. automaker to join the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program as a $1 million member, equipping local Red Cross chapters to better prepare for disaster situations. In 2015 and in 2016, Mazda committed $1 million in cash and vehicle donations—the largest of its kind—to ensure the Red Cross’ success in training and maintaining disaster response teams who will be ready to immediately respond when they are needed.

“Through the Mazda Drive for Good program, Mazda has the ability to work with strong non-profit partners throughout the United States—and the American Red Cross continues to provide an incredible partnership sharing similar values as ours,” said Robert Davis, senior vice president of U.S. operations at MNAO. “Partnerships such as these are important to the very being of who Mazda is as an organization.”

Earlier this year, the American Red Cross recognized Mazda’s continuing support at its Heroes Luncheon, granting Mazda with its Community Partnership Award.

Through financial support and donations, as well as volunteering and support from employees, Mazda hopes its partnership with the American Red Cross will build strong communities that are prepared for the future.
