Father’s Day Mazda Motorsports Style: With Family – At The Track

MX-5 Cup at Indy Father's Day

For many racers, Father’s Day is just another weekend with dad. In the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires paddock at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, many of the racers could not even recall a single race weekend where their dad, and mom, were not present. We gathered up a few of them in Gasoline Alley to hear their thoughts about family and Father’s Day.

Andrew List (No. 61 D2D Motorsports): “I can’t ever remember when we weren’t all at the race track at the same time. It’s a good time.”

Jim List, father of Andrew List (No. 61 D2D Motorsports): “An old racer once told me that I’m the luckiest man in the world as my wife and family enjoy racing as much as you do. I remember that every time we’re at the track. It’s absolutely wonderful.”

Ashton Harrison (No. 03 GB/Racing Analytics): “It’s pretty cool to spend every Father’s Day at the track with both by my dad, and my track dad Bo.”

Bill Harrison, father of Ashton Harrison (No. 03 GB/Racing Analytics): “Racing has become a Father’s Day tradition, because every Father’s Day there’s a race weekend somewhere with Mazda. It’s been good.”

Patrick Gallagher (No. 29 McCumbee McAleer Racing): “It’s good to have dad here, mom too. It’s not just Father’s Day. They come to every race. Of course, to win here on Father’s Day would be even better.”

Larry Gallagher, father of Patrick Gallagher (No. 29 McCumbee McAleer Racing): “It’s the greatest place to be. We have spent many weekends racing on Father’s Day, especially with MX-5 Cup.”

Tom Martin III (No. 21 Winding Road Team TFB):  “It’s pretty cool. It’s great to have dad here. It’s what we do together. The only time he missed a race we didn’t do well and wasn’t much fun.”

Tom Martin II, father of Tom Martin III (No. 21 Winding Road Team TFB): “Being at the racetrack with my son is a gift in itself. Driving a race car is a lot of fun, but in some ways, being a dad and watching your son race is even more thrilling. He doesn’t know it, but I get tears in my eyes when he’s having a great run.”

Dillon Dextor (No. 90 Copeland Motorsports): “I’ve almost never been to a racetrack without my dad, but I think this is the first time on Father’s Day. We are pretty much an exclusively family operation. We pretty much all go together.”

Zane Dextor, father of Dillon Dextor (No. 90 Copeland Motorsports): “This is really special as my dad is here as well. When I was a little boy I went to the drag races with my dad, he got me interested in motorsports, engines, and going fast at a very young age.”

Nikko Reger (No. 01 Copeland Motorsports): “Racing on Father’s Day weekend just makes everything that much more special. My dad is always there for me when we go to the races. Heck, I can’t rent a car at my age. To win for him would be special.”

John Reger, father of Nikko Reger (No. 01 Copeland Motorsports): “It’s definitely special. We have a lot of the kids in town this weekend, so we’ll have lunch and enjoy the race.”
