CX-30 2.5 Turbo Empowers Driving Performance

2021 Model Offers Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo

The journey ahead in the 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo has been expanded with the addition of the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine. Mazda’s newest crossover blends sophisticated designs, ample amenities, nimble driving dynamics, and thoughtful proportions to help the vehicle standout in its segment. The new 2021 CX-30 2.5 Turbo’s performance and capabilities encourage a willingness to embrace adventures and enjoying the higher qualities in life.

The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine gives the already thrilling CX-30 more power with 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium 93 octane fuel or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular 87 octane fuel, while only experiencing one mile per gallon reduction in EPA estimated fuel economy combined than the naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine. The Skyactiv approach to is unique based on three key differences from conventional downsized turbocharging, which includes a unique cylinder head with an integrated 4-3-1 with exhaust collector for charge scavenging an unconventionally high 10.5:1 compression ratio to improve fuel efficiency achieved through charge scavenging and cooled EGR and a dynamic pressure turbo system to further improve turbo response. Overall, this turbo engine helps provide the driver with a rewarding feeling on every drive.

While the CX-30 already has great driving dynamics, the Turbo model needed a few minor adjustments to maintain the same natural driving feeling with the more powerful engine and stronger Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. The differential mount is enhanced to be able to receive more torque in the rear, which helps the CX-30 2.5 Turbo rotate through a corner more naturally. The suspension was also retuned to be slightly stiffer, but only to support the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine that is heavier than the naturally aspirated engine.

With more power, the CX-30’s capabilities can be even more pronounced. The Turbo is balanced with Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive and G-Vectoring Control Plus that can help enhance the driver’s ability to explore everything from city streets to mountain roads. As part of the i-Activ all-wheel drive system, the CX-30 features Off-Road Traction Assist, which when engaged will retune the all-wheel drive and traction control systems to be optimized for off-road and help reduce the chances of wheel slip.

With Off-Road Traction Assist engaged, the vehicle will start with maximum rear torque and locked up center coupling. As it starts rolling, the system will immediately loosen the coupling and monitor if the tires begin to slip. If there is any speed differential between the front and rear, then the system will start to tighten up the coupling. If one or two tires are up in the air, or unloaded, as the CX-30 is attempting to climb up a hill, the system will apply the brakes to the unloaded tires so that the torque will naturally go to across to the other side of the differential to the tire that is on the ground and has the most grip. This reactive system allows the CX-30 to determine what it needs to do to help support the driver’s intentions, even on uneven pavement.

From on-road to off-road conditions, the CX-30 2.5 Turbo provides a responsive driving feeling that results in empowering drivers with the freedom to expand their horizons by exploring with confidence.
